Update May 2017

A May 2017 Microsft security update for Windows 10 conflicted with a major routine in FileBoss resulting in FileBoss not starting on some Windows 10 systems.

Versions V3.101 and later, fix the problem. You can read more about this at the page
Windows Creators Conflict.

Copying Files from CDs

Special Handling when Copying Files from CDs

Files on most CDs and DVDs are set to Read-Only, even when the original files that were copied to the CDs were not. This can be a real pain when copying those files back to a HD as many programs will refuse to modify a read-only file (such as Word Processors and Graphics programs).

So FileBoss will remove the read-only bit from files when they are being copied from CDs and DVDs.

While removing the read-only bit is the default setting it can be changed easily using Options > Program Options... command from the main menu and selecting the Copy Files panel. As shown in the screen fragment below:

Options for copying files from CD

Note: The read-only bit will only be removed when the FileBoss Copy Engine is used. When files are dropped on FileBoss or a Drop Target and they are configured to use the normal Windows Copy engine the read-only bits will not be changed.
(Whether FileBoss' Advanced Internal Copy Engine or the normal Windows' copy engine will be used for file Dropped on FileBoss or a Drop Target can be configured easily using the Options > Program Options... command from the main menu and selecting either the the Drag & Drop or Drop Target panel as appropriate.

(Please note that clearing the read-only file attribute does not allow copy protected CDs or DVDs to be duplicated or copied. FileBoss does not break copy protection schemes.)
