Update May 2017

A May 2017 Microsft security update for Windows 10 conflicted with a major routine in FileBoss resulting in FileBoss not starting on some Windows 10 systems.

The current download, V3.101, fixes the problem. You can read more about this at the page
Windows Creators Conflict.

3.01CA is Available

Last updated 2 May 2013

3.01CA Charlie is now available

A Charlie version is one that is still undergoing development in the sense that it is not a feature complete beta of the next version.

What is included

(In the following discussion Mac Characters are those characters in filenames that are legal on a  Mac (iOS) operating systems but which are illegal under Windows.)

Three views of Apple Characters

The current Charlie release, 3.01CA, includes new features and code for working with filenames, created on a Mac (iOS) system which contain characters that are illegal under Windows.

These new features include:

  • Viewing Mac filenames normally in both Explore and Virtual Folder tabs
  • Viewing Mac filenames using meta-characters for the illegal characters
  • Searching based on Filenames can now include searching for special Mac characters such as the backslash, slash and double quote marks (just to name a few).
  • A quick way to search for all filenames containing Mac characters that would be otherwise illegal under Windows Explorer and other file managers.
  • The ability to convert Mac characters into other characters or strings for Windows Compatibility either through FileBoss's traditional search and replace renaming routine or a new renaming routine that can search and replace all Mac characters at once.
  • Mac characters can be replaced (and yes, even added to filenames) during inline editing (F2) of filenames.
